Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coins from the Royal Canadian Mint were available from 1979 to 1982 with just a 1 oz gold coin available featuring .999 fine gold content. As of November 1982, the coins were available in two fractional weights that included ¼ oz and the 1/10 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leaf, all of which now featured .9999 fine gold content.

The obverse of all Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Coins includes an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s right-profile portrait has appeared on all Canadian coinage since 1953, and the Gold Maple Leafs have gone through three different generations of Her Majesty’s portrait. Coins from 1982 to 1989 featured Arnold Machin’s design, followed by Dora de Pedery-Hunt’s from 1990 to 2003. Modern coins have the Susanna Blunt design.

On the reverse, all 1/10 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coins feature the sugar maple leaf design in use since the coin’s debuted in 1979. The singular maple leaf is featured in full stretch with engravings of “Canada,” “9999,” “Fine Gold,” and “1/10 oz Or Pur.”
