The Vienna Philharmonic, also known as the Austrian Philharmonic, is among the most respected orchestras in the world. The orchestra is the inspiration for the design on both sides of the 1/4 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coin. Images used on the coin depict the music hall used by the group, as well as numerous instruments played by members of the orchestra. You can purchase a 1/4 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coin from the year of our choice in brilliant, uncirculated condition.

The 1/4 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic is the official gold bullion coin of the Austrian government, and was initially minted in 1989. When the gold coins were first introduced, minting was limited to 1/4 oz and 1 oz weights. Initial coins in the series were produced with face values in Austrian Schillings. Since 2002, however, the coins are produced with face values listed in Euros (€).

On the obverse side of the 1/4 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coin is the musikverein pipe organ found within the Golden Hall in Vienna. The design was produced by Thomas Pesendorfer, and engravings on this side include “Republik Osterreich” and the face value, weight, metal content, and year of minting of the coin.

The reverse side of the coin features numerous instruments used by members of the Vienna Philharmonic, and was also designed by Pesendorfer. Depictions of the Vienna horn, bassoon, harp, and violins are included on this side of the coin. A single text engraving reads “Wiener Philharmoniker.”

Remember that each of these 1/4 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coins is available from varied years, and sold in brilliant, uncirculated condition. Based upon the year of minting, your coin could include its face value in Austrian Schillings or modern Euros.

The Austrian Mint is one of the world’s oldest, with a history that dates back to 1194. Duke Leopold VI of Austria is credited with minting the first bullion products using 15 tonnes of silver paid by England’s Richard the Lionheart to earn free passage upon his return from the Crusades.
