The long-awaited release of its 1 oz gold bars has occured, and the first 1,000 released are available right now from JM Bullion.

Bar Highlights:

  • The first 1,000 bars struck! Serials #1-1000! We cannot honor requests for specific serial numbers.
  • Arrives in a sealed plastic card including assay.
  • Consists of one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Asahi Refining logo on the reverse.
  • Struck by Asahi Refining’s North American refineries.

Each 1 oz Gold Asahi Refining Bar in this product listing is available from the release of the first 1,000 gold bars from the mint. The most popular gold bullion bar weights are 1 oz and 10 oz, making these a highly anticipated release for investors.

Asahi Refining made a high-profile purchase of Johnson Matthey facilities in 2014. The sale led Johnson Matthey to exit the precious metals industry after more than 150 years as one of the leading brands in the industry. The sale, completed for roughly $162 million (USD), resulted in Asahi ownership of refineries in Salt Lake City, Utah and Brampton, Ontario, Canada, as well as a third location in St. Catharines, Canada.

On the obverse of the bar there are no engravings, only the rough, matte finish that resulted from the production process. The reverse side has the Asahi Refining logo at the top and the individual serial number for the bar at the bottom.

Asahi Refining originated as a scrap metal collector and recycler in Tokyo, Japan. The company was founded in the 1950s, but did not garner further brand recognition around the globe until its recent purchase of Johnson Matthey assets. Following the purchase, Asahi struggled to produce silver bars due to immense demand for silver and shortages throughout 2015.
