If you’ve been searching for pre-1933 US gold coins, you are aware of the difficulty that comes with locating one to purchase. After the federal government’s collection and meltdown of all gold circulation coins during the Great Depression, pre-1933 coins became incredibly difficult to find. Today, Silver.com proudly offers the $10 Gold Indian Eagle coin for purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coin available in rare condition!
  • Consists of .4838 ounces of .900 gold.
  • Bears a face value of $10 (USD) fully backed by the US government.
  • Struck by the United States Mint.
  • Available in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition.

Following the California Gold Rush of 1848, the United States Treasury was flush with excess gold, and resulted in a number of new gold coins rolling out of the United States Mint on an annual basis. Gold coins were not particularly popular in the US prior to the 1830s, but in the decades that followed, production increased and Americans fell in love with gold coins.

The US government’s collection of pre-1933 gold coins created scarcity among the nation’s historic coins, making each of the $10 Gold Indian Eagles in this product listing rare finds. Each one of these Gold Indian Eagles is in BU condition, which means that the coin shows little signs of wear. There may, however, be contact marks, spotted surfaces, or breaks in luster.

On the reverse side of the coin is the image of a bald eagle sitting atop its perch. That perch consists of a quiver of arrows wrapped in an olive branch. The image represents the nation’s readiness for war, but its determination to remain at peace whenever possible.

The obverse side of the coin features Liberty in her popular war bonnet. Similar to a Native American headdress, Lady Liberty is in left-profile relief with the war bonnet on her head, 13 stars surrounding her head, and the year of minting engraved below. Augustus Saint-Gaudens, designer of the popular $20 Gold Double Eagle, created the images on this coin.

The United States Mint struck all $10 Gold Indian Eagles at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco facilities. If you have questions, a Silver.com associate is ready to help.
