These 1991 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagles were struck at the US Mint’s West Point Facility in New York. Each one has been given the highest PF70 grade as well as the UCAM designation. The Ultra Cameo (UCAM) designation, which is only given to proof coins, simply means that it has a mirrored background with frosted devices. Though the Proof Gold Eagle has inherent value due to its high gold content, they are also sought out by collectors due to their limited population.

In 1991, only roughly 54,000 1 oz proof coins were struck by the US Mint. What’s more, out of those coins, only about 849 were given the perfect grade of PF70 UCAM by the Numismatic Guarantee Corporation. Because of this, these coins are often harder to find than other coins with higher mintage numbers and are highly desirable among numismatists.
The design on the coins has been uniform since 1986 and always contains the same images and information. On their obverse Lady Liberty is shown with the word “LIBERTY” above her. The reverse features a family of eagles with weight, purity and face value inscriptions. Each of these coins also come encased in a protective NGC coin slab which states its grade, weight, year and a unique serial number for verification purposes.
