The Proof Gold Eagle has been offered by the US Mint every year since the series was initiated in 1986. Each year proof coins are minted in each weight (1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz and 1/10 oz) with the one ounce size being the largest. Containing the same design as the bullion version, Proof Gold Eagles are struck using special dies giving them more precise detail and a mirrored finish.
Like the bullion Gold Eagle Coin, the Proof version features iconic imagery on both its obverse and reverse. On the front of the coin is the classic image of lady liberty walking with a torch in her hand. The back side shows a male and female eagle accompanied by their hatchlings as well as inscriptions for the weight, purity and face value of the coin which in this case is $50 USD. Each of these PF70 UCAM coins ship in a protective NGC slab marked with the minting year, condition and a unique serial number for authentication
