This $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle was first released by the United States Mint in 1840. It enjoyed a 67 year minting period prior to its discontinuation in 1907. Because of its unique denomination, the Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle has become a highly sought after piece in both the collecting and investing communities.
Every coin included in this collection has been evaluated by the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) or the PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) with a grade of MS62. The coins also have a gold content of .12094 and a legal tender value of $1 USD. Despite evident wear from small contact marks, MS62 coins are still considered to possess an overall acceptable appearance. To prevent any further deterioration, all coins have been kept in sealed in their own NGC or PCGS slab.
Depicted on the obverse of the coin is Christian Gobrecth’s design, which combines classical Greco-Roman art aesthetics with iconic American emblems. It features Lady Liberty turned in profile with an engraved crown in her styled hair. Her portrait is encircled by a series of thirteen stars to honor the original thirteen colonies. Printed beneath her portrait is the coin’s mintage year. The composition of his design is reminiscent of those seen on ancient forms of currency.
The reverse side of the coin proudly displays the Great Seal of the United States. This emblem consists of a spread winged bald eagle upholding a large shield. In its opposite talons, it balances an olive branch with a set of arrows to symbolize to the US’s devotion to both maintaining and protecting the peace within this country. Printed along the edge of the coin is our country’s name along with the coin’s denomination.
