The Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985 was passed by Congress and allowed for production of an official gold bullion coin of the United States. The program originally consisted of a bullion and proof version of the coin, with four different weights. In 2006, an uncirculated coin was added to the program.
Each of the coins available in this product listing has a perfect grade from the NGC. A perfect proof coin has its full, original luster, and no blemishes, detracting flaws, contact marks, or hairlines. Ultra-cameo coins have a design set that appears to float over a background field courtesy of the strong, frosted finish on the design and the deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Lady Liberty depiction is used on the obverse side of all Gold American Eagles. In the image, Lady Liberty is featured walking forward with the rising sun at her back. Her right hand holds a torch aloft, while her left grasps an oak branch. The reverse side of the coin bears Miley Busiek’s family of bald eagles in their nest.
