The world’s most popular silver bullion coin is the Silver American Eagle. Each year the United States Mint strikes these coins based upon demand in the precious metals market. All coins in the series are minted using .999 fine silver and carry a face value of $1 (USD). Right now, you can purchase a 2006 1 oz. Silver American Eagle coin from Silver.com with an MS69 grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.

When the NGC issues a coin a grade of Mint State 69, it indicates a coin that maintains its full, original luster. The surface of the coins in this product listing have no more than two visible flaws, none of which are visible within the primary viewing area of the coin. These coins are special in the Silver American Eagle series as they are part of the US Mint’s 20th anniversary celebration of the coin’s introduction.

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains 1 oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Minted by the United States Mint
  • Carries a $1 face value backed by the US government.
  • Ships in an NGC slab.
  • Graded a near-perfect MS69 by the NGC.

The United States Mint issued the first Silver American Eagle coins in 1986. The coin program began with bullion and proof coins available, but only the bullion coins have been minted every year since the coin’s introduction. All coins in the series use silver sourced from within the United States, as stipulated in the Liberty Coin Act of 1985.

On the obverse side of the Silver American Eagle is Adolph A. Weinman’s depiction of Walking Liberty. Weinman was a student of artist and sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the man responsible for reviving coin design in American minting. The image features Lady Liberty striding toward the setting sun with her right hand outstretched and the American flag draped over her shoulders.

The reverse side displays John Mercanti’s image of the heraldic bald eagle. In the image, the eagle sits behind a shield and is clutching arrows in one talon, with an olive branch in the other.

The United States Mint strikes Silver American Eagle Coins at three of its four mint facilities; the San Francisco Mint, Philadelphia Mint, and West Point Mint.
