The Gold American Eagle coin was first introduced in 1986 after Congress passed the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. All coins in the series are struck using only gold sourced from within the United States. Each coin has a face value that is representative of its weight, with the exception of the ¼ oz coin.
Each of the coins available in this Silver.com product listing earned a perfect PF70 grade from the NGC. Perfect proof coins have their full, original luster and no blemishes, contact marks, detracting flaws, or hairlines. Ultra-cameo coins have strong, frosted design sets overtop a deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse side of all Gold American Eagle coins. The depiction was created originally in 1908 and first appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle between 1908 and 1933.
The reverse image on all coins is that of a bald eagle returning to its nest with an olive branch in its talons. A female bald eagle is visible standing guard over the nest’s hatchlings. Engravings on this side read “United States of America,” “E Pluribus Unum,” and “In God We Trust.”
