White Mountain National Forest was established as a protected region by the federal government in 1918, though land acquisition in the region had begun as early as 1914. The vast majority of the forest, managed by the US Forest Service, is located within New Hampshire. A small portion, just 5% of the forest, is located in neighboring Maine.
America the Beautiful is a 56-coin series that honors special places and moments from American history. Five new coins are released by the US Mint each year, with the White Mountain ATB coin serving as the first coin in the 2013 production year. When the program ends in 2021, it will represent all 50 states, five territories, and the District of Columbia.
On the obverse side of the coin is the image of a mountain rising in the distance, with a pristine tree-lined lake in the foreground. The reverse bears the image of President George Washington, featured in left-profile relief as seen on circulation quarters in the US.
Each of the coins in this product listing is available in near-perfect grade from the PCGS. These coins still have their full, original luster, but may contain a maximum of two minor contact marks, blemishes, detracting flaws, or small hairlines.
