Silver.com carries the 2013 1 Oz American Silver Eagle—the world’s most sought after silver bullion coin. Rising to popularity in the late 1980s, the American Silver Eagle won the world over through its beauty and U.S Government backed contents, purity, and fineness. In addition to being backed by the US Government, Silver Eagles are IRA-eligible. Each American Silver Eagle contains 1 Troy Ounce of .999 Fine Silver and has a face value of $1 USD, making it a smart addition to any collection or metals portfolio.
Every Silver Eagle is minted at either the West Point Mint in New York, or the San Francisco Mint in California and is delivered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. ASE coins are delivered in singular protective plastic sleeves, Mint Tubes or ‘Rolls’ of 20, with quantities of 500 Mint sealed in Monster Boxes with 25 tubes of 20 coins each.
The face, or obverse side, of the Silver Eagle depicts the Walking Liberty design that could originally be found on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, designed by Adolph Weinman and minted from 1916-1947. As the design was exceptionally prevalent when the Walking Liberty coin was first minted, it made for an obvious choice face of the American Silver Eagle. The words “Liberty”, “In God We Trust” and the current year, “2013”, are inscribed on the front to the right of the Walking Liberty design.
The reverse, or backside of the American Silver Eagle depicts an iconic bald eagle in arrears to a shield, masterfully designed by American sculptor and engraver John Mercanti. The eagle is clutching an olive branch in one talon, signifying peace, while gripping arrows in the other, perhaps eluding to ‘strength in unity’. Suspended above the eagle are 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies; each star has 5 points. All American Silver Eagles measure approx. 40.6mm in diameter and maintain a thickness of 2.98mm
