While some of the world’s most popular gold and silver sovereign coins are struck in just a handful of weights each year, the Silver Mexican Libertad is available to investors and collectors in a variety of weights on an annual basis. Among the most popular is the 5 oz weight. The 2015 5 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coin is available through Silver.com right now in near-perfect condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Extremely rare! Just 42 coins currently exist in this grade / condition!
  • Consists of five ounces of .999 fine silver.
  • Design inspired by historic gold Centenario coin.
  • Graded Mint State 69 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • Ships in a PCGS plastic slab to protect coin’s condition.

The Silver Mexican Libertad was first introduced in 1982 as the official silver bullion coin of the Mexico. For the first nine years of production, the coins were only available in a 1 oz weight. Three fractional-weight coins were introduced in 1991, followed by a 2 oz and 5 oz coin in 1996.

Mintage levels for the popular 5 oz Silver Mexican Libertad have always been strictly controlled by Banco de Mexico and the Mexican Mint. On just four occasions since 1996 has production exceeded 10,000 coins. In recent years, production numbers have slipped, making it difficult to find these coins.

In this Silver.com product listing, each 2015 5 oz Silver Mexican Libertad features an MS69 grade from the PCGS. These are considered near-perfect coins, with each still bearing its full, original luster, but as many as two minor detracting flaws.

On the obverse side you’ll see the image of the statue of Winged Victory in the foreground, with the twin volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background. The face value, metal content, year of minting, and purity are engraved around the images.

The reverse side of each coin features the modern coat of arms for Mexico in the center, surrounded by 10 historic versions of the seal used since the nation’s independence from Spain in the late 1820s.
