Each of the 2016 1 oz Platinum American Eagle coins in this Silver.com listing have near-perfect MS69 grades from the NGC. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster, but also feature a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited in scope to miniscule hairlines or contact marks found outside the primary focal areas of the coin.
On the obverse of the Platinum American Eagle bullion coin is the image of the Statue of Liberty. This depiction of Liberty as she gazes into the future includes engravings of “Liberty” along the top, the year of issue, and the national motto of “In God We Trust.” Then-Chief Engraver of the US Mint John Mercanti created this design.
The reverse of all 2016 1 oz Platinum American Eagle coins includes the image of the bald eagle soaring above the sun. This image has featured on the reverse of all bullion coins since 1997, and was created by Thomas D. Rogers. It includes the coin’s face value, weight, purity, and metal content, as well as “United States of America.”
The Early Release designation of these coins indicates that they arrived at the NGC or an approved third-party depository within the first 30 days of the release date for 2016 coins as set by the United States Mint.
Platinum American Eagle coins share design concepts with other American Eagle coin programs. Like the silver and gold versions, the reverse always depicts the bald eagle while the obverse features the image of Liberty.
