In total, the American Eagle program consists of bullion, proof, and burnished versions of the coin, with the silver and gold variants introduced in 1986, and a platinum coin added to the program later on. The burnished version of the silver and gold coins was introduced in 2006 on the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle series.

Each 2016 Silver American Eagle in this listing has a perfect grade from the PCGS. Coins in MS70 condition have their full, original mint luster and lack any detracting flaws on the surface.

In order for coins to be designated as First Strike by the PCGS, the coins must arrive at a PCGS or PCGS-approved depository within the first 30 days of the release date issued by the United States Mint. The coins must arrive in sealed boxes as well.

On the obverse of all Silver American Eagle coins is Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design, first used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin from 1916 to 1947. Former US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti designed the heraldic eagle image on the reverse.
