There’s only one animal that is referred to as the true king, and that is the African lion. Known as the King of the Jungle, the lion was a fitting choice for the inaugural release in the new Kings of the Continents Coin Series from the New Zealand Mint. The 2016 1 oz Silver Niue Kings of the Continents African Lion Coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition today on Silver.com.

  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .999 fine silver.

  • Reverse features the imposing African Lion.
  • Obverse bears Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait.

Each of the coins in the Kings of the Continents Series from the New Zealand Mint features a different creature representative of a different continent. For the first release in the series, the mint opted to depict the African lion on its brilliant, colorized silver coins.

The African lion is a subspecies of the greater lion species, one of two subspecies that exists in the world. African lions live in family units known as prides, with only one adult male typically living in each pride. The family group also include numerous females and young cubs.

On the obverse of the 2016 1 oz Silver Niue Kings of the Continents African Lion coin is the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Captured in right-profile relief, this image is included along with “Elizabeth II,” “Niue,” “Two Dollars,” and “2016” engraved on the obverse.

The reverse side of the Kings of the Continents African Lion Coin bears a colorized image. The alpha male is depicted on the obverse of the coin with its powerful jaws opened wide as it bellows out a ferocious roar that can no doubt be heard across the grasslands. The only engravings on this face are the weight, purity, and metal content of the coin.

All 2016 1 oz Silver Niue Kings of the Continents African Lion coins in this Silver.com listing are Brilliant Uncirculated specimens. Coins with this grade exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice some minor flaws like breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks.

The New Zealand Mint is a privately owned operation in the city of Auckland. It produces some of the finest coins in the world, but is not associated with the national government, whose coins are produced by the Royal Canadian Mint and the Royal Mint in London.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
