Fractional-weight Silver Libertad coins were introduced in 1991 by the Mexican Mint. The weight ranges available include the 1/20 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/2 oz coins in addition to these 1/10 oz Silver Libertad coins. The highest mintage year for the 1/10 oz Silver Mexican Libertad coin came in 1992 when 299,933 were struck and the lowest mintage year was 2012, when just 3,300 coins were produced.

On the obverse of the 2017 1/10 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coin is the image of Winged Victory. She is a symbol of the Mexican people and their resistance to Spanish colonialism in the 19th century. She holds the wreath in her right hand signifying freedom of governance, while her left holds the broken chains of colonialism.

The reverse side of all Silver Libertad coins include the coat of arms. The coat of arms on the fractional-weight coins is the modern design and features only by itself, while the larger weight coins have the circle of 10 older designs used dating back to 1820 and the start of the independence movement.

Founded in 1535, the Mexican Mint’s original purpose was to refine gold and silver for shipment to European capitals and the heart of the Spanish empire. Today it is the official sovereign mint of the Mexican government and controlled by the Banco de Mexico.
