Customers: Please take note that these coins will be certified by either the PCGS OR NGC and graded as MS64 condition. We will select coins from years ranging from 1839-1908 to fulfill your order based on our current inventory selection.

The $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle was produced by the United States Mint between 1839-1908. Due to its rare denomination, this coin has become a popular favorite among both collectors and investors. It is also among the few gold coins left in existence since 1933, when President Franklin Roosevelt ordered the discontinuation of all gold currency in the United States.

Each of these Liberty Half Eagles has a gold content of .24187 troy oz. They have also been certified with an MS64 grade by the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) or the PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service). MS64 graded coins are distinguished by an above average appearance with only a light amount of contact marks to diminish their original luster. To protect their described condition, all coins have remained individually sealed in their official NGC or PCGS examination slab.

Prominently featured on the obverse of the coin is artist Christian Gobrecht’s classical rendition of Lady Liberty. From her face turned in profile to the crown placed in her elaborately styled hair, Gobrecht demonstrates many of the aesthetics common to Greco-Roman art. Even the ring of stars accompanied by the coin’s mintage year mimics the composition seen on ancient currency.

In contrast, the reverse of the coin turns to American icons for its inspiration. Depicted in the center of the coin is the heraldic eagle. It consists of a spread winged eagle carrying a large shield. Its talons are firmly clasped upon an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. Our nation’s name appears above him. However, depending on the coin’s mintage date, the denomination can appear as either “5 D.” or as “Five D.” Also affected by the mintage date is the presence of the “In God We Trust” motto, which will only appear on coins minted after 1866.

As one of the United States’ most rare and memorable pieces of currency, the $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle will no doubt become a treasured collectible.
