These 5 oz Silver Proof Frank Frazetta Legacy Collection Death Dealer Rounds have a brilliant mirror finish that is achieved through expert production processes. The Osborne Mint hand feeds each round into the coining press, manually striking the blank rounds up to five times to achieve the desired finish.
Frazetta began creating artwork as a two-year-old child, with constant encouragement from his grandmother. His professional works began to gain attention in the 1940s at the age of 16. While Death Dealer is one of his popular designs, it was his artwork for the paperback version of “Conan the Barbarian” that propelled his career to a new level.
The obverse side of each 5 oz Silver Proof Frank Frazetta Legacy Collection Death Dealer round features the terrifying image of the Death Dealer. This fearsome warrior is depicted riding a powerful steed, holding a shield in his left hand and bloodied axe in his right. What’s most terrifying is the horned helmet that shields his face, allowing for no display of emotion.
On the reverse side is a portrait of a young Frank Frazetta. Frank’s son, Frank Jr., had a hand in the creation and design of all Legacy Collection silver rounds. The images on both sides were artfully recreated by Italian sculptor Luigi Badia.
The Osborne Mint of Cincinnati, Ohio is responsible for striking each silver round in the series. Opened in 1836, it is the oldest private mint in the United States.
