Alphonse Mucha is a well-known art nouveau artist. In fact, he’s considered the founding father of the movement which enjoyed its highest point in popularity from 1890 to 1910. Mucha created many works of art, most of which were used in promotional pieces and advertisements. Among them, his depictions of beautiful women are the most famous. Right now, the 5 oz Proof Silver Mucha Collection Ivy Round is available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Mucha released two commissioned artworks for the dancer Lygie in 1901. These two designs are known as Ivy and Laurel, and the first of the two to debut was Ivy. Considered an artwork inspired by Lygie’s figure, Ivy was the first and appears before Laurel in the Mucha Collection from Anonymous Mint.

The reverse of the 5 oz Proof Silver Ivy Round includes a portrait of the artist himself. Mucha was born in what was then the Austrian Empire in 1860. Today he is viewed as a cultural icon for the Czech Republic, as the modern day nation encompasses the region in which he was born in 1860.

On the obverse of each of the Silver Ivy Rounds you’ll find Mucha’s depiction of the woman known as Ivy. It is believed to be based on the image of Ivy on Lygie, and her hair features ivy intertwined throughout with background images of arrows and flowers surrounding her figure.

All rounds in this collection are from Anonymous Mint, which has the approval of the Mucha Foundation to reproduce his brilliant works through coin creator Julie Lindquist and Italian Master Sculptor Luigi Badia.
