First struck in 1878 using silver from the largest ever silver strike in American history, the Morgan silver dollar is one of the most beloved coins ever to be struck by the U.S. Mint. Morgan Silver Dollar coins were minted from 1878 and 1904, then again between 1921.
The Morgan Silver Dollar is comprised of 90% silver and 10% copper, giving it a net weight of .77344 oz. of pure silver. It has a weight of 26.73 grams and a diameter of 38.1 mm. The Peace Silver Dollar was struck at the Philadelphia, Carson City, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Denver mints.
Today, the Morgan silver dollar is a highly cherished collectible coin that also offers several distinct benefits as a silver investment. The older Morgan silver dollars are considered to be more rare because many of them were melted down to produce the 1921 Morgan.
