Silver Canadian Maple Leaf

The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Silver Canadian Maple Leaf in 1988. The Silver Maple Leaf is struck with one full troy ounce of .9999 fine silver and has a face value of $5 Canadian dollars. Both the silver purity level and face value of the Silver Maple Leaf are the highest of any other comparable government minted silver bullion coin in the world.

Per Canadian law, all legal tender currency must feature an image of the ruling British monarch. As such, the Silver Maple Leaf features a finely detailed image of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The fact that this coin features a royal figure is reminiscent of the classical era when kings and queens were prominently featured on coinage. The reverse of the Silver Maple Leaf is equally striking. It features a richly detailed image of the Canadian national symbol – the Maple Leaf, which is a well recognized symbol the world over.

While the Silver Maple Leaf may be purchased individually or by the tube, one of the more popular ways to obtain this coin at the lowest price is by purchasing a monster box of 500 coins sealed from the Royal Canadian Mint. These boxes are quite compact, and can be stored with relative ease. This option allows the flexibility to purchase silver at a bulk price, while still benefiting from the advantages of owning smaller amounts of silver bullion.
