In 2021, the United States Mint introduced the first new design in the history of the series. John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle had graced the obverse of all coins in the Silver Eagle Series from 1986 to 2021. Starting in July 2021, the US Mint introduced its new bald eagle effigy on the reverse side of the coins. This new image comes from Emily Damstra, a vaunted coin designer who is a member of the Artistic Infusion Program.

All of these 2022 1 oz Silver American Eagles come with individual presentation cards. The cards are perfect for gift-giving at birthdays. This particular design offers a blue Happy Birthday Card design that includes streamers, balloons, and a cake. There are playful, colorizations around the central space where the coin is held.

On the obverse of 2022 Silver American Eagles is an image of Walking Liberty. This iconic depiction comes from Adolph A. Weinman and was created in 1916 for the US half dollar. In use through 1947 on the half dollar, this design shows Liberty in left-profile relief with the American flag draped around her shoulders as she reaches for the sun on the horizon with her right hand. Her left hand carries the branches of oak and laurel.

The reverse side of the 2022 1 oz Silver Eagle comes with the new depiction of the American bald eagle. The bald eagle shown here is in flight with its wings raised behind its back and its talons clutching an oak branch.
