The official gold bullion coin of the United States is the Gold American Eagle. Introduced in 1986, these brilliant coins broke the mold for American gold coin production and are available in a total of four different weights. The smallest of these is the 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle, which is available today on Silver.com from varied years of mintage.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic flip.
  • Part of the popular American Eagle Series.
  • Available since 1986.
  • Consists of One-tenth Troy ounce of 22-karat gold.
  • Bears a face value of $5 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Obverse features the Liberty image from Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
  • Reverse includes the bald eagle design set created by Miley Busiek.
  • Coins in this listing have varied dates of issue.

When the first American gold coins were struck by the US Mint starting in 1794, the traditional English standard known as “crown gold” was used for the baseline of metal content in gold coins. This 22-karat, or .9167 pure gold, was featured in American coins until 1834.

Beginning in 1837, the US Mint officially lowered the metal content of gold coins to .900, although no coins after 1834 had featured anything higher. Throughout the next 100 years of American gold coinage, purity was pinned at .900. When the 1/10 oz. Gold American Eagle was introduced along with its counterparts in 1986, it was the purest gold coin available from US Mint.

Since 1986, the 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle has proven to be one of the most popular weights among the four available Gold American Eagles, which also include a 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz The largest mintage years for the 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle were 1998 and 1998, with 1.3 million and 2.7 million struck respectively. The lowest mintages came in 1991 and 1988 with just 165,000 and 159,000 struck respectively.

On the obverse of all 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle coins is the image of Lady Liberty. Created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this is considered the greatest American coin design of all time and originally featured on the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle.

The reverse includes the image of an American bald eagle as it flies over the family nest holding an olive branch. Created in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this is exclusive to the Gold American Eagle coins.

Each of the 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle coins in this product listing will have a varied year of mintage, with the date of issue you receive based upon availability at the time your order is fulfilled.  Gold American Eagle coins struck from 1986 to 1991 have date marks in Roman Numerals, while all subsequent coins from 1992 onward use Arabic numerals.

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
