When the United States Mint first introduced the Platinum American Eagle coin program, it had a much more robust offering than it features today. The bullion and proof versions of the coin were available not only in the popular 1 oz weight, but also in three fractional weights that included ½, ¼, and 1/10 oz options. Today, those fractional weights are no longer in production, but you can still purchase 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle Coins online at

The Platinum Eagle coinage was moderately popular when it was first introduced by the US Mint. Between 1997 and 2008, the mint issued the bullion version of the coin with three fractional weights that included these 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coins. While the 1 oz coin is the only one available today, the 1/10 oz was the most popular.

Between 1997 and 2008, the 1/10 oz Platinum Eagle outsold the 1 oz version of the coin in every year but three. The initial year of availability in 1997 saw a high-water mark for the 1/10 oz coin with 70,250 sold, while the lowest mintage ever came in 2006 at just 11,001.

All of the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coins in this listing are available to you in near-perfect condition. The PCGS issues a Mint State 69 grade to coins with full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws in this condition include minuscule hairlines or contact marks found only outside of the primary focal area.

In this listing, guarantees you’ll receive a 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coin with a Mint State 69 grade. We cannot guarantee the year of issue you’ll receive, only that it will come from a range of 1997 to 2008 when the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle bullion coin was struck. The specific year you receive is based upon availability in our warehouse when your order processes for shipping.

The obverse of all Platinum American Eagle coins includes the image of Lady Liberty, as created in 1997 for the Platinum Eagles by John Mercanti. Mercanti formerly served as the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint until 2010.

On the reverse of the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle is the image of an eagle soaring above America. This design was created by Thomas D. Rogers for the bullion and proof coins in 1997.
