Proof Gold American Eagle coins from the United States Mint have an interesting minting history that other versions of the American Eagle coins do not feature. In particular, the fractional-weight coins have a distinctive history within this collectible series of gold coins for sale. The 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagles are currently available to you for purchase online at Silver.com in a random-year listing.

  • Issued a face value of $5 (USD) by the United States.
  • Lady Liberty features on the obverse.
  • American bald eagles are on the reverse.

  • Please keep in mind that we cannot hand select varying date marks if you buy multiple coins.

The 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coin was the last to join the collectible gold series and debuted in 1988 with the 1/4 oz version of the coin. This followed the 1986 debut of the Proof Gold Eagle’s 1 oz coin and the 1987 introduction of the 1/2 oz version of the coin. The 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagle proved massively popular at first, outselling the other three weights in each year from 1988 to 2007.

1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagles have two different types of date marks depending on the year of issue. All Gold American Eagles had Roman numeral date marks on coins issued from 1986 to 1991, while all coins issued from 1992 onward had Arabic numerals. The fractional-weight Proof Gold Eagles, in particular, have different mint marks based on year of issue. The fractional coins were first struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a “P” mint mark from 1987/1988 to 1993, and then at the West Point Mint with a “W” mint mark from 1994 onward.

On the obverse of all 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagles is the design of Lady Liberty. This image was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle circulation coin. The reverse of 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins includes the family of bald eagles designed by Miley Busiek in 1986.

These 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coins are available to you with capsules only and do not feature a US Mint box or Certificate of Authenticity. A random-year listing, we’ll choose your coins at random once your payment is processed. We cannot hand pick certain date marks or guarantee varying date marks if you buy more than one coin.
