This privately minted 1/2 oz silver round has been modeled after the original Mercury Dime, which was produced by the United States Mint from 1916 -1945. The Mercury Dime was commissioned by the government as a part of its campaign to diversify the artwork seen on the various forms of currency. Each commemorative round from the American Relief Mint weighs 1/2 troy oz and possesses a silver purity of 99.9%, making it both a stunning and suitable piece for investments.
All rounds ship in brand new mint condition, sealed in either a protective plastic sleeve or a tube with 20 pieces. Because every round has been acquired directly from its original mint, customers can place their orders in full confidence that they will receive an authentic collectible. Please note that while this silver round was fashioned after the original Mercury Dime Coin, it has no legal tender face value and therefore, cannot function as such.
The front of the round pays tribute to Adolph Weinman’s acclaimed design, in which Lady Liberty dons the winged helmet of Mercury. She is portrayed in profile with her long tresses neatly tucked away under the iconic headpiece. According to accounts by Weinman, the design was intended to represent “Liberty of Thought.” Also inscribed unto the front of the round is her name, which appears in an arched formation at the very top of the round.
Although the front of the round attempts to copy the details of the original Mercury Dime, its reverse side offers its own stylized interpretation of the heraldic eagle emblem. In this image, an eagle is displayed behind a shield with a ribbon in its beak which says “E Pluribus Unum.” Further contributing to the patriotic motif of the design is a series of stars, which appear directly above the eagle. As a final touch, the round’s purity and weight have been printed along round’s border as an easy source of reference.
This 1/2 oz Mercury Dime Silver Round is an impressive piece of bullion that is appropriate as both an investment or a gift.
