The Silver Koala is one of Perth Mint’s most beloved coin series. Introduced in 2007, it followed the 1990 release of the Silver Kookaburra as an annual release coin from the mint that featured native Australian wildlife. The series offers a new image of the koala on the reverse each year, and featured a 1/2 oz silver coin among its options for several years. Today, 1/2 oz Silver Australian Koalas from random dates are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside individual acrylic capsules!
  • Struck from 2008 to 2015!
  • Mintages are limited!
  • Comes from random dates!
  • Consists of One-Half Troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
  • The face value of $.50 (AUD) is fully backed by the Australian government.
  • On the obverse is Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse side depicts koalas in various reliefs.
  • Please remember you may receive coins with the same dates and designs when buying multiples.

With the introduction of the Silver Australian Koalas in 2007, the Perth Mint offered only a 1 oz silver coin. In 2008, the series expanded to include a 1 Kilo, 10 oz, and 1/2 oz silver coin. These options had face values in Australian dollars reflective of their weight against the 1 oz silver coin and its $1 (AUD) value. This resulted in face values of $30 (AUD), $10 (AUD), and $.50 (AUD), respectively.

All of the 1/2 oz Silver Australian Koalas available here come with protective plastic capsules. The coins available here come with the potential for date marks ranging from 2008 to 2015. Silver.com cannot guarantee which date mark or corresponding design you will receive when you purchase through this listing.

Our team selects all coins at random in this type of listing. Your items will be picked from available inventory once your payment has cleared. Please remember that this also means you could receive coins with the same dates and designs when buying multiples.

On the obverse of 1/2 oz Silver Koalas is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. This design was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint and came to Perth Mint coinage in 1999.

The reverse side of 1/2 oz Silver Australian Koalas features an image of the koala. A native marsupial, the koala is known to sleep for up to 20 hours each day and live on the leaves of the eucalyptus tree. The designs on this side of the coin will vary with each date mark.
