The Royal Canadian Mint releases a vast array of annual release bullion coin programs, and some of its most popular are its silver coins. The Silver Canadian Bison is one of the youngest coin programs available, and is released each year with a new design on the reverse side of the coin. Right now, the 1.25 oz $8 Silver Canadian Bison Coin is available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you in protective plastic flips!
  • Five issue years available to purchase!
  • First-ever 1.25 oz coin from the Royal Canadian Mint.
  • Consists of 1.25 Troy oz of .9999 fine silver.
  • Bears a face value of $8 (CAD) backed by the federal government of Canada.
  • Obverse includes Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy.
  • Reverse features the design of the bison from the RCM.

Silver Canadian Bison coins were first issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2015. The coins became the first from the RCM to feature .9999 pure silver in a 1.25 oz weight coin. The theme of the coin program focuses on the woodland bison.

To date, there have been three design releases in the Silver Bison collection. The first of these arrived in 2015 with the image of a bison as it rumbles across the grasslands of Canada. This design was the debut in the series, and remains popular to this day as the first-ever issue in the series.

On the reverse of the 2016 Silver Canadian Bison coin you’ll notice an all-new design for the release year. This time the bison is featured at the edge of a body of water drinking from the lake as the mountainous terrain of the background image rises to meet the sky. In the most recent release, the 2017 Silver Bisons coins feature the massive beast as it moves along the valley at the base of a mountain. The 2018 and 2019 coins shared a design depicting the head of a bison in right-profile relief, with the 2019 date mark representing the end of the series.

The obverse face of all Canadian Bison coins, regardless of the year of issue, includes the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy features on the obverse of all Canadian coinage, and it was created by Susanna Blunt in 2003 for use on Royal Canadian Mint products.

In this product listing with Silver.com you will receive a 1.25 oz $8 Silver Canadian Bison coin. The year of issue will vary depending upon availability, and is guaranteed to come from 2015, 2016, or 2017. Additionally, the condition of the coins will vary and is dependent upon availability when your order is processed.

The Royal Canadian Mint is the official sovereign mint of Canada. It was founded in 1908 in the federal capital of Ottawa, and operated a sole facility until the 1980s when a second location was opened in Winnipeg to expand minting capacity.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
