The Gold American Eagle is the official gold bullion coin of the US federal government. America’s Founding Fathers selected the bald eagle as the nation’s official emblem in 1792 because of its longevity, majesty, and power. The country’s early leaders believed the eagle was the perfect embodiment of the spirit of the American people. These 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle coins are available from the year of our choice an are in uncirculated condition.
Congress authorized the creation of the Gold American Eagle series with the passage of the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. The first coins in the series were introduced in 1986 for investors in 1/10 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1 oz sizes. Since 1986, the same images have been used on the obverse and reverse sides of the coin. Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ image of Lady Liberty, with flowing robes, olive branch, and torch, is featured on one side. On the other, Miley Busiek’s image of a family of nesting bald eagles. Busiek is a noted sculptor, while Saint-Gaudens was originally commissioned to create his design on $20 gold coins by US President Theodore Roosevelt.
On the obverse side of the 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles is Saint-Gaudens’ image of Lady Liberty. Her depiction is accompanied by engravings of “LIBERTY” and the year of minting (2015). The reverse side includes Busiek’s image of the family of eagles. The depiction is surrounded by engravings including “United States of America,” “E Pluribus Unum,” “In God We Trust,” and the weight, purity, metal content, and face value of the coin.
The United States Mint produces all 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles using only gold that has been mined in the US. The mint uses all four of its primary facilities to produce the Gold American Eagle coins.
