One of the most recognizable coins in the world is the Gold British Britannia coin. Struck by the Royal Mint each year, the coin has been a staple of the United Kingdom’s economy in one form or another for several hundred years. First introduced in 1987, the Gold Britannia coin is the official gold bullion coin of the United Kingdom. Today, you can purchase a ¼ oz Gold British Britannia Coin from Silver.com, with varied year of minting, in brilliant uncirculated condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains 1/4 oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Minted at the Royal Mint in Great Britain.
  • Obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III.
  • Features the popular Britannia design.
  • Available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

The first Gold British Britannia coins were struck in 1987 using .917 fine gold in the production process. The original coins in the series were offered in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz weights. Beginning in 2013, the Gold British Britannia coin was struck using .9999 pure gold, with 5 oz and 1/20 oz coins introduced to the series. Generally speaking, ¼ oz coins are not struck in high mintage levels because demand is not as high. However, this means that ¼ oz Gold British Britannias are more difficult to come by for those who covet the small coin.

On the reverse side of each Gold British Britannia coin is a full-length depiction of Britannia. A personification of the island of Britain, as well as the official name for the province during the Roman Empire’s conquest of the British Isles, Britannia is featured wearing a Corinthian helmet on her head, wielding a trident in her right hand, and guarding the English Channel with a shield in her left. If you look closely, you’ll notice the Union Jack emblazoned on her shield.

The obverse side of the coin features the iconic right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley for use on British coins. Her image is surrounded by the engravings “Elizabeth II D.G.” and “Reg’Fid’Def.” From mid-2023 onward, this series boasts a left-profile portrait of King Charles III on the obverse.

The Royal Mint issues all ¼ oz Gold British Britannia coins with a face value of £25. One of the oldest mints in the world, the Royal Mint was founded as single entity (the London Mint) in 886. The products in this listing are all in brilliant uncirculated condition, but year of minting will vary based upon availability at the time your order is fulfilled for shipment.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
