The Morgan Silver Dollar enjoyed a brief mintage period from 1878 to 1904 with one more year of production in 1921. It would be the first silver dollar to be produced by the United States Mint since the Coinage Act of 1873, in which the new gold standard caused the value of silver to plummet. Given its historical significance, the Highland Mint has chosen to produce its own commemorative Morgan Silver Round in honor of the original.
- Contains 1/4 oz of .999 pure silver.
- Minted at Highland Mint in the USA.
- Features the famous Morgan Silver Dollar design.
This special edition round was made from 1/4 troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver which exceeds the actual coin’s purity of 90%. All silver rounds are guaranteed to arrive in new condition. Although this round attempts to replicate the details of an existing coin, we would like to remind customers that it has no face value nor can it serve as an actual piece of currency.
The Highland Mint’s commemorative round provides an accurate replica of Morgan’s original coin design. Depicted on the front of the round is Lady Liberty. She is wears a hairstyle of loose curls accompanied by a pileus, a wreath of laurel leaves and an inscribed headband. The one exception to Morgan’s design can be seen in the border along the round’s edge. While the “E Pluribus Unum” motto remains the same, there are now sixteen stars instead of thirteen to compensate for the absent mintage year.
The reverse side’s central design element is a soaring bald eagle with its wings outstretched and its talons clasped around an olive branch and a set of arrows. An open wreath serves as a frame for this majestic bird. However, collectors will note that the words “In God We trust,” which appeared above the eagle’s head on the actual coin, have been replaced by the round’s silver purity. Encircling the entire image is an inscription with our nation’s name and the coin’s denomination.
