  • First struck in 1988!
  • Consists of One-Quarter Troy ounce of actual gold content.
  • Issued a face value of $10 (USD) by the United States.

  • The American bald eagle is visible on the reverse.
  • When purchasing multiple coins you may receive several with the same date mark.

The Gold American Eagle coin is similar to its silver, platinum, and palladium counterparts in that it features Lady Liberty on the obverse and the American bald eagle on the reverse. However, each of the different metallic options in this coveted series features its own, unique design. In the cast of three of the four coins, these designs come from historic US circulation coinage.

For the Gold American Eagle, the United States Mint revived and modernized the appearance of the Lady Liberty design created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt to help revolutionize American coinage in the early 20th century, Saint-Gaudens’ design appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933.

On the obverse of 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles, you’ll find Saint-Gaudens’ design of Liberty. This artistic rendition includes Lady Liberty walking away from Washington D.C. with the US Capitol Building in the background near her feet, an olive branch in her left hand, her torch in her right hand, and a ring of 50 stars around the design field.

The reverse of 1/4 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coins includes the image of an American bald eagle family. Inside of the nest, a female guards a young hatchling under her wing as a male eagle flies over the nest. This design was created in 1986 exclusively for the Gold Eagle Series by Miley Busiek.

These 1/4 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins are available to you from Silver.com with an original plastic capsule, however, the initial US Mint boxes and Certificates of Authenticity are not available in this listing. Silver.com warehouse team members will select your coin at random when your payment is processed. We cannot guarantee the date mark on the coin you receive and want you to know that you may receive multiples with the same date mark if you buy more than one coin.
