The Proof Platinum American Eagle has the distinction of being the only US Mint bullion coin in the American Eagle Series that has refreshed design elements each year. The coins had a stable obverse design from 1997 to 2017, and now have a stable reverse design as of 2018. The Proof Platinum Eagle is also the only one of the coins to have its program downsized. Right now, 1/4 oz Proof Platinum Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you inside individual protective capsules!

  • Bears a face value of $25 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • The obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty.
  • On the reverse are varying images of the American bald eagle or other symbols of American government.

Each 1/4 oz Proof Platinum American Eagle listed here comes with an individual protective capsule. The only date marks possible for the 1/4 oz Proof Platinum Eagle range from 1997 to 2008, with the coins suspended in 2009 and not struck in any subsequent years. Silver.com offers these coins at random.

We will select coins to fulfill your order after your payment clears. As such, we cannot guarantee a particular date mark or design in advance. If you buy several of these coins, you may receive coins that have the same date marks and designs.

The release of 1/4 oz Proof Platinum Eagles varied from one year to the next based on the interest of collectors. The two highest mintages came in 1998 and 1999 when the series sold 38,887 and 39,734 coins, respectively. The lowest mintage came in 2007 when just 8,402 coins were produced.

The obverse side of Proof Platinum Eagles in this weight always features John Mercanti’s depiction of the Statue of Liberty. The full statue is not captured in the design, but rather, the face of the beautiful figure. Her stoic gaze is accompanied by a crown with towering spikes.

On the reverse field of 1/4 oz Proof Platinum American Eagles, you will find varying images based on the date mark. The United States Mint has largely issued reverse designs in themed collections. For example, from 2006 to 2008 it issued designs honoring the Foundations of Democracy. Each coin’s reverse shows a different symbol for one of the three branches of the federal government.
