The city of Tombstone, Arizona is known to many Americans as one of the last bastions of lawlessness in the American West. However, this boomtown wasn’t a popular haven for outlaws for no reason. A booming silver mine made the town an attractive site for outlaws from across the American West, and challenged lawmen to keep the peace. Tombstone was founded in 1877 by a man named Ed Schieffelin who was taking part in a scouting expedition against the Apache Indians. During his time in the wilderness of the surrounding areas, he made the first of what would become many discoveries of silver in the region.
Silver mining started in earnest not long after Schieffelin’s discovery, and in the boom years of 1877 to 1890, roughly $40 to $85 million worth of silver bullion was extracted from the area’s mines. In modern values, that equates to anywhere from $1.05 billion to $2.24 billion in silver bullion.
On the obverse of each 1 Kilo Silver Scottsdale Tombstone Silver Nugget Bar are vertical engravings that include the words “Tombstone,” “Arizona Territory,” and “Silver Nugget.” The reverse face of the bar features horizontal engravings that include the bar’s purity, metal content, and weight, as well as the official seal of the Scottsdale Mint.
Each 1 Kilo Silver Scottsdale Tombstone Silver Nugget Bar ships either in an individual canvas pouch, or a wooden crate of 15 bars. This, combined with the dimpled finish on the bars themselves, gives this product a historic look and feel that cannot be beat.
Scottsdale Mint is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. The privately-owned facility is one of many in the US that pursues sustainable precious metal production, often collecting recycled silver from the photographic and manufacturing industries.
