The United States Mint creates some of the most sought-after coin programs in the world today. Many of its famous designs available today enjoy popularity based upon a sense of nostalgia, with many of its best-selling coins featuring historic designs from circulation currency produced in the United States. Right now, Silver.com offers a variety of Gold American Buffalo coins for investors and collectors.

Coin Highlights:

  • Consists of one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Bears a face value of $50 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Introduced in 2006.
  • Coins bear images from the iconic Indian Head nickel.
  • Designed by James Earle Fraser.

The Gold American Buffalo coin was authorized by the US Congress in December 2005. America’s sovereign coin program was one of the few in the world not to feature a 24-karat, .9999 fine gold coin. The Gold American Eagle is struck in 22-karat gold, while the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf and gold bullion coins from the Perth Mint feature .9999 fine gold.

Gold American Buffalo coins are available only in one troy ounce, and like other bullion coin programs from the US Mint, feature an iconic image from American history on both the obverse and reverse. James Earle Fraser’s 1913 design for the nation’s five-cent circulation piece was refined and used on the Gold American Buffalo.

On the obverse side of the Gold Buffalo is Fraser’s depiction of a Native American chieftain. Featured in left-profile relief, the image on the obverse features only the tribal leader, an engraving of the year of issue, and the word “Liberty.”

The reverse bears a bison standing atop a mound of dirt. Dominating the design on the reverse, the bison is a depiction of Black Diamond from the Central Park Zoo in New York City. Fraser selected both images due to his childhood, which was spent growing up on the frontiers of Minnesota and the Dakotas with his father.

The United States Mint produces Gold American Buffalo coins in two versions each year, and the coins are produced largely at the West Point Mint facility in New York state.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
