One of the more haunting images from medieval time period of human history is that of Albrecht Durer’s knight as he rides through a devilish scene. Known as Knight, Death, and the Devil, the original artwork wasn’t a drawing, but instead was a chiseled work on a copper plate. His image is revived now on the sixth release, and first of 2017, in the Hobo Nickel Series. The 1 oz Antique Silver Durer’s Knight Round is available to you online at Silver.com.

Round Highlights:

  • Ships to you in a protective capsule.
  • Includes a Certificate of Authenticity!
  • Sixth release of the Hobo Nickel Series!
  • Mintage limited to 5,500 rounds only!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .999 Fine silver in antique condition.
  • Obverse features the image of Durer’s Knight.
  • Reverse includes the design of a death tree.
  • Individual rounds ship in resealable plastic bags.

Durer’s depiction of the knight riding through an eerily evil scene is said by some to a depiction of the biblical scriptures. In Psalm 23, the book reads “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” Durer’s Knight is clearly passing through something very similar.

However, other scholars believe Durer’s inspiration may have come from his own life and fears. He was one of 17 children in his family, but also only one of the two in his entire family to live to adulthood. Death surrounded his life as his 15 other siblings passed due to disease outbreaks, with Durer even writing “Anyone who is among us today, may be buried tomorrow.”

The Durer’s Knight striking is the first of 2017 and sixth overall in the Hobo Nickel Series. While the 2016 releases were all created by Mr. The, a group of five new artists have been chosen to craft the designs in the new collection. For the Antique Silver Durer’s Knight Round, Roman Boteen is the designer behind the obverse and reverse images.

On the obverse of all 1 oz Antique Silver Durer’s Knight Rounds you’ll find the image of Durer’s Knight, faithfully recreated by Boteen. The original creation featured the rider moving through a narrow gorge with a goat-headed devil behind him and death riding a pale horse in front of him.

The reverse of the 1 oz Antique Silver Durer’s Knight Round includes the image of a haunting tree, with a human skull visible beneath its trunk and a sword coming out from under the sprawling network of roots supporting the tree.

All Silver Durer’s Knight Rounds have an antique finish for added beauty. Products with an antique finish have added warmth in appearance and depth to the overall detail of the round. Additionally, your 1 oz Antique Durer’s Knight Silver Round arrives in protective plastic with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

We encourage you to contact Silver.com with any questions you might have about these new rounds. You can reach us at 888-989-7223, chat with us online, or email us.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
