America’s hobo subculture is captured by the media in many forms, including poorly dressed individuals with knapsacks on the end of a stick or those same people roasting cans of beans over an open fire. Hobo subculture also included unique art forms, such as engraving designs onto circulating coins. No American coin was targeted more by hobos than the nickel. Today, creative new takes on the Buffalo Nickel live on with designs such as the 1 oz Antique Silver Indian Skull Round.

Spanish engraver Paolo Curcio, known as Mr. The, used the Buffalo Nickel design from James Earle Fraser as inspiration for his own unique craftings on silver round programs. His recent use of the Indian Skull design famously debuted on the Hobo Nickel Series in 2016, and now leads the charge in an exciting new United Snakes of America collection.
For this new collection, Mr. The’s Indian Skull design returns as the first design in the collection. Badia transferred each of the designs to plaster for use in the striking of these brilliant silver rounds. Each design release in the United Snakes of America collection is available in 1 oz antique and 1 oz copper bullion in addition to this 5 oz antique silver.
All 1 oz Antique Silver Indian Skull Rounds is available to you in antique condition, with an extremely limited mintage and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity to validate your purchase. Four more designs are planned in this collection, each of which offers a unique twist on other historic American coinage.
The obverse of the 1 oz Antique Silver Indian Skull Round includes the right-profile portrait of the Native American chieftain originally designed by Fraser, but reimagined in skeletal form by Mr. The for this collection. Engravings include “Liberty” and the year 1937, which was the second-to-last production year for Buffalo Nickels.
On the reverse of the 1 oz Antique Silver Indian Skull Round you’ll find the image of the heraldic eagle restyled with snakes. There is a massive snake head emerging from behind the nation’s heraldic shield, with various smaller snake heads emanating out from the sides instead of the wings of the eagle.
