Australian Platinum Platypuses are available in .9995 purity and in brand new, uncirculated condition. This coin has a $100 face value and weighs one troy ounce.
The 1 oz. Platinum Platypuses are part of a coin series that was first minted in 2011 by the Perth Mint of Australia. Since their inception in 2011, the Platypus has been one of the most sought after platinum coins in the world. With a high purity and beautiful design, it is no wonder this coin is so popular.
The reverse side of the coin, designed by Natasha Muhl, depicts the famous duck-billed platypus which calls the fresh waters of Australia its home. Also depicted on the reverse side of the Platinum Platypus is the underwater vegetation commonly found in Australian rivers and lakes which the platypus is most often sighted. The Platypus is one of Australia’s most intriguing wild creatures and though it looks like an American beaver, it has webbed feet like those of a duck. Around the reverse side’s design are the words “AUSTRALIAN PLATYPUS”, the issue year, and the words “1 OZ .9995 PLATINUM.”
The obverse side of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscribed on the obverse side are the words “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA”, and “100 DOLLARS.”
