On the obverse of Copper Legalized Collection Washington D.C. Rounds is an image of President George Washington and Justice as Initiative 71 passes. The scale held by Lady Justice have cannabis leaves on one side. The U.S. Capitol Building is featured in the background field, as is a train crossing over a river bridge with the sun rising in the background behind it.
The reverse side of 1 oz Copper Legalized Collection Rounds comes with a common design element. All releases in the Legalized Series have this same design of a cannabis leaf that has been handcuffed. The design points to the federal government’s continued stance that recreational cannabis use is illegal. While it can’t block state movements to decriminalize, it has hampered D.C.’s movement a bit. The federal government controls 29% of the land within the District. Even though Initiative 71 has passed, recreational cannabis use remains illegal on any land within the district controlled by the feds.
