Robert Scot, the 1st Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, developed the original image of the heraldic eagle. His first design in 1794 was widely disliked by Americans because the eagle involved was small and skinny, a factor that many felt displayed the United States as a weak nation. Subsequent designs of the eagle were created by the likes of Christian Gobrecht, Charles E. Barber, and John Mercanti, each man a well-known US coin designer and former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
All of the 1 oz Copper SilverTowne Eagle and Shield Rounds in this listing come with individual plastic flips. If you purchase multiples, you will receive your copper rounds in mint tubes of 16 or boxes of 400 rounds. Each individual piece is in brand-new condition.
The obverse side of 1 oz Copper SilverTowne Eagle and Shield Rounds bears the image of a unique heraldic eagle depiction. In this design, the US heraldic shield is featured in the background with an American bald eagle lifting off from its surface into flight. The eagle clutches an olive branch of peace in one talon and the arrows of war in the other talon.
On the reverse field of 1 oz Copper SilverTowne Eagle and Shield Rounds is an image of the American bald eagle in flight. This depiction captures the bird from behind as it returns to its perch. Its wings are lifted high behind its figure to soften its touch down as it reaches out with its talons to clutch its perch.
