In 2016, the Chinese Mint altered the coins to feature 30 Grams of gold and markings reflecting that weight in Grams. The coins issued after that feature .9645 Troy ounces. The original 1 Troy oz Gold Pandas issued from 1982 to 2015 featured a face value of ¥100 (Yuan) from 1982 to 2000 and a face value of ¥500 (Yuan) from 2001 to 2015.

The reverse face of Gold Chinese Panda Coins includes the image of a Giant Panda. The panda is a distinct species of bear found only in the highlands of central China and are known for their patches of black and white fur.

On the obverse side of 1 oz Gold Chinese Panda Coin is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building is the primary structure within the Temple of Heaven, a Taoist religious complex located in south-central Beijing.
