In 2004, the Bavarian State Mint introduced a series of gold coins for sale. However, while the name of the series may have been new, the program itself was not. This was the year that the mint transitioned the Zambia Elephant Series to become the Somalia Elephant Series. Since then, the coins have been available to investors on an annual basis with new design elements on the reverse each year. Now, 1 oz Gold Somalia Elephants are available to you for purchase online from Silver.com with random date marks.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins ship to you inside protective plastic flips!
  • Comes with dates from 2004 to the present!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Issued a face value of 1,000 Somali Shillings.
  • The obverse features the Somali coat of arms.
  • On the reverse are various depictions of African bush elephants.
  • Please keep in mind that you may get coins with the same dates and designs when you buy multiples.

The transition from the Zambia Elephant Series to the Somalia Elephant Series resulted in only marginal changes to the program initially. The most obvious changes were in the name of the specific collection and the obverse design, with the Zambian coat of arms swapped out for the Somali coat of arms.

While the obverse design changed and the name changed slightly, the Bavarian State Mint maintained the collection as part of the African Wildlife Series. The series has maintained its reverse design focus on the African bush elephant throughout its history, from 1999 when it was the Zambia Elephant to the modern era as the Somalia Elephant.

The obverse side of 1 oz Gold Somalia Elephants features the Somali coat of arms. This design features a crowned shield with a single star at its center. That star is set against a background field of horizontal lines. The shield is supported by leopards on each side and there is a beaded border around the design element.

On the reverse face of Gold Somalia Elephants are various different designs of the African bush elephant. The bush elephant is one of three subspecies of elephants alive today and it has long been the focus of this series. The collection offers a new design on the reverse each year with no repeated visuals.

These 1 oz Gold Somalia Elephants are available to you in plastic flips. Each coin in this listing comes with a possible date mark ranging from 2004 to the present. As mentioned above, the designs change each year in this series, so it is also possible to find a variety of designs in this listing.

Please keep in mind that Silver.com cannot guarantee a date mark or design in advance. All coins are chosen at random once your payment has cleared. As a result, you may get coins with the same dates and designs when buying multiples.
