Prospector designs are popular among private mints in the United States. The association between the Prospector imagery and the production of precious metals is an easy one to make. Throughout the latter half of the 19th century, individuals known as prospectors crisscrossed the western half of North America as one discovery of precious metals after another.
From the massive gold rush in California in the final years of the 1840s to the discovery of the Comstock Lode silver mines in Nevada in the 1870s, prospectors would pick up their entire lives to cross the country in hopes of striking it rich.
The obverse side of 1 oz Platinum Engelhard Prospector Rounds comes with the image of a prospector panning for gold in a small creekbed. The prospector is hoping for riches as he pans through the water, rocks, and sand in the creekbed to find silver or gold. This face of the platinum round has inscriptions of the nation the round was issued in and a date mark.
On the reverse face of the 1 oz Platinum Engelhard Prospector Round is a depiction of the American bald eagle with the American flag and an olive branch. The eagle swoops into view clutching onto the pole on which the American flag flies and an olive branch in the other talon. Both sides of the platinum rounds have a beaded design element edge.
These 1 oz Platinum Engelhard Prospector Rounds are available to you inside of sealed assay card packs. The pack protects the condition of the platinum round with an assay card that includes an individual serial number along with the weight, purity, and metal content. Please note that as these platinum rounds have date marks, we cannot guarantee a specific date mark. If you buy more than one, all of the date marks could match.
