Issued for the first time in 2006, the Gold American Buffalo coin is the purest gold coin offered by the United States Mint. These beautiful specimens are available in 1 oz gold in both bullion and proof versions, and feature designs taken right from the Buffalo Nickel created in 1913 by James Earle Fraser. The 1 oz Proof Gold American Buffalo Coin is now available to you in perfect condition when purchased online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you sealed inside of a protective plastic slab from the PCGS or NGC!
  • Struck each year since 2006!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Issued a face value of $50 (USD) by the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of Proof 70 from the Professional Coin Grading Service or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Obverse depicts a right-profile portrait of a Native American.
  • Reverse features the design of an American bison.
  • Available from varied years with varied labels.

The Proof Gold American Buffalo coin was offered starting in 2006 along with the bullion version of the coin. Both coins were initially only offered in 1 oz, but the 2008 issue year did feature fractional-weight Gold Buffalos in the proof range. Those have, however, since been stopped by the United States Mint.

On the obverse of all 1 oz Proof Gold American Buffalo coins is Fraser’s design of a Native American. Fraser once said he used the facial features and characteristics of three different individuals to create the image, rather than using one person as his sole inspiration for the design.

The reverse of Proof Gold American Buffalo coins includes a design with an American bison standing on a mound of dirt. This animal was inspired by Black Diamond, a bison held at the Central Park Zoo in New York City in the early 20th century. Both images appeared on the Buffalo Nickel from 1913 to 1938.

Each 1 oz Proof Gold American Buffalo Coin in this listing is in perfect condition. Coins with a Proof 70 grade have no detracting flaws and possess full, original mint luster. In this listing, you may receive coins with a First Strike, Early Release, Ultra-Cameo, or Deep-Cameo label. While the former two denote coins received within 30 days of release for certification, the latter identify brilliant proofs with strong, frosted elements and deeply-mirrored, clear backgrounds.

Silver.com cannot guarantee the year of issue or labels for the coin you receive. Our warehouse team will determine those factors based upon coins in stock within the warehouse at the time your coins are processed for shipment.

We encourage Silver.com customers to ask questions. Our team is available at 888-989-7223, online using our live web chat, and via our email address.
