On the obverse of Proof Gold American Eagle Coins is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty design. Considered the greatest American coin design of all time, it featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle circulation coin from 1907 to 1933.

The reverse of 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coins includes a vision of American bald eagles. The family is depicted here with a male flying over the nest as a female shelters a young hatchling within the nest. It was designed in 1986 by Miley Busiek exclusively for the Gold American Eagle coins.
