Medusa suffered a massive fall from grace during Greek antiquity. She was one of the three gorgon sisters who served as a priestess of Athena, and as such she took a vow of celibacy. However, Medusa forgot her vows and lay with the God of the Sea, Poseidon. When Athena learned of this, she reacted angrily.

She doomed Medusa to a life of solitude, turning away any man that would cross her path. With a body half woman and half snake, and a head full of live snakes, one glance from Medusa would turn any man who looked at her into a stone pillar.

The half-man, half-god Perseus, son of Zeus, was the only man to survive an encounter with Medusa. He was able to decapitate the beast, and gave her head to Athena for use on her personal shield.

Each 1 oz Silver Antique Medusa Round in this listing has a brilliant antique patina to its finish. This effect creates a sense of age on products that are still new, giving the design subtle depth and bringing warmth to its appearance.

On the obverse of the Medusa Silver Round is a front-facing portrait of Medusa, complete with a head full of snakes and engravings around the outer edge of the design that include Greek-style carvings.

The reverse of the 1 oz Silver Antique Medusa Round has the official Anonymous Mint logo. Similar to the heraldic eagle of the United States Mint, the Anonymous Mint logo features an owl behind the heraldic shield.

Anonymous Mint developed the Medusa Silver Round series with the help of Coin Creator Julie Lindquist. The Anonymous Mint is a private American facility producing brilliant, low-mintage silver rounds.
