The North American Mint’s Apollo 11 Series was released in the summer of 2019 with 1 oz silver rounds consisting of .999 fine silver in each piece. The eight-round series offered fresh obverse designs with each issue that captured a different stage of NASA’s eight-day mission with Apollo 11, the successful program that put humans on the Moon and returned them safely to Earth.
These designs are once again available from the North American Mint with a stunning 24-karat gold plating applied to .999 fine silver blanks. Rather than plate select design elements, the North American Mint has applied the 24-karat gold layer to the entire field on both sides of the round, creating a new visual take on its popular Apollo 11 designs.
The obverse of the 1 oz Silver Apollo 11 Eagle Landing Rounds comes with a depiction of the Eagle lunar lander. In this design, you can see the lunar lander as if you’re standing on the Moon. The Eagle is making its descent toward the lunar surface and its booster rocket has fired to slow its descent and soften its landing. As the powerful rocket fires and the landing capsule nears the surface, Moondust begins to kick up.
On the reverse side of Silver Apollo 11 Eagle Landing Rounds is the common design element used throughout this series. Here, the Apollo 11 mission patch from NASA is replicated in beautiful detail. The lower field offers a glimpse of the lunar surface as an actual American bald eagle touches down on the Moon’s field clutching an olive branch in its talons. The design field includes a dual date for the 50th anniversary with both “1969” and “2019” noted, while Earth is visible in space in the background.
These 1 oz Silver Apollo 11 Eagle Landing Rounds come with a gold-plated finish applied across the entire surface area on the front and back. Each round is housed in its own plastic capsule and a Certificate of Availability is available with your purchase. Rounds in this series are individually numbered by the mint.
