The Royal Mint of England launched its Great Engravers Collection as bullion coins in 2019 to revive and celebrate some of the greatest designs from the mint’s past. William Wyon was the first former engraver to have designs featured in the series. In particular, his Una and the Lion design from the reign of Queen Victoria in the 19th century was chosen to grace the first silver and gold coins.
Now, his designs are being reimagined in a new way with the help of Royal Mint Engraver Jody Clark. In the first-ever release of bullion bars in The Great Engravers Collection, the Una and the Lion design is now available for those who prefer to buy silver bars. The new bullion options include these 1 oz silver bars alongside 1 oz gold bars, 10 oz silver bars, and 100 oz silver bars. All options have the Jody Clark design.
Queen Victoria is featured on the obverse design of 1 oz Silver Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Una and the Lion Bars. She is depicted here in a modern rendition of Wyon’s classic Una and the Lion concept. Created by Jody Clark, the man behind the definitive fifth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, the image shows Queen Victoria in left-profile relief as she clutches the monarch’s globe and scepter. At her side, a powerful lion is seated who serves as her guardian and companion.
The seal of the Royal Mint is found on the reverse of 1 oz Silver Great Britain Una and the Lion Bars. The Royal Mint seal includes the quartered shield from the Royal Arms of England. This shield bears the Three Lions of England in two quadrants, the Lion of Scotland in one quadrant, and the Harp of Ireland in the other. These are the representative coat of arms designs for England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, the constituent nations of the United Kingdom.
These 1 oz Silver Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Una and the Lion Bars are available with plastic sleeves. The Royal Mint offers each one with beautiful, smooth edges and .9999 fine silver content.
