The Jersey Devil is one of the many popular, mythological beasts etched into the psyche and popular culture of the United States. Together with Bigfoot and Chupacabra, the Jersey Devil represents one of the many creatures in North America studied by cryptozoologists, those individuals committed to the research and possible identification of mythical beasts. Today, 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Rounds are available to you online at Silver.com.

Round Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside of individual flips or tubes for multiples of 10 to 20 rounds!
  • Part of the Cryptozoological Series at the Intaglio Mint!

  • The Jersey Devil graces the obverse of round.
  • The seal of the Intaglio Mint is on the reverse of the round.

The Jersey Devil is still a part of New Jersey state culture today as the NHL franchise based in the state proudly boasts the name New Jersey Devils in a nod to the beast. The Jersey Devil is said to inhabit South Jersey in the Pine Barrens and has been sighted in both southern New Jersey and parts of Philadelphia. The mythical beast is said to have the body of a wyvern with a goat or horse head, horns, bat wings, and a forked tail.

All of the 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Rounds in this listing come to you with individual protective plastic flips or mint tubes that house multiples of 10 to 20 rounds. Each individual round is in brand-new condition from the mint.

The obverse of 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Rounds includes the depiction of a Jersey Devil in left-profile relief. The beast has a goat-like head with horns, bat-like wings, and the body of a wyvern. It also has a long, forked tail.

Sightings of the Jersey Devil were first reported in 1735 during the early colonial era on America’s East Coast. The Leeds Family is said to be the origin of the tale. Jane Leeds, already the mother of 12 children, is said to have cursed her unborn child upon finding out she was pregnant with a 13th. However, contemporary reports of the day suggested Mrs. Leeds was a witch and that the child’s father was the devil himself, giving rise to the possibility of the Jersey Devil as it has been reported over the centuries since.

On the reverse of 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Rounds is the image of the Intaglio Mint seal. The logo is set in the center of the design field with a radial sunburst background. Around the outer design field, the weight, purity, and metal content of the round are inscribed on a background that is hammered.
